With
both Meringur and Nangiloc eying off fourth spot, the Demons’ clash with
reigning premiers Euston becomes a crucial encounter in the context of the
season.
With this in mind, the highlight of Round 11 Millewa
Football League action will be the clash between the Demons and the Bombers at Euston
Reserve. Nangiloc were impressive in patches against the Saints last week,
however their inexperience showed when Bambill ran away with it in the second
half, and they will be looking to play four quarters of consistent footy today.
As for Euston, this is a vital match in the context of
their season. Despite coming out on top against Cardross last week, the Bombers
need to start winning games against teams competing for top 4 spots, so they can
regain the confidence that was the highlight of their play last year.
This match will be a cracker, and with the strength of
both sides being their ability to blow games apart with pace in the midfield,
it will definitely be an entertaining tussle for the crowd. However, the
Bombers’ experience and determination to regain some form should see them nudge
out the Demons in a match that will go down to the wire.
In another crucial encounter, Meringur host Cardross at
Lake Cullulleraine this afternoon.
Meringur are in a constant tug-of-war with Nangiloc for
fourth spot on the ladder, and need to make every post a winner if they are to
claim the final spot in the four come finals. The Roos were easily disposed of
by Gol Gol last week, and will be determined to jump the struggling Lions early
today.
However, in the last encounter between these two sides
back in Round 4, Cardross led all day only to see victory stolen from them after
the siren. With this in mind and the fact that they are still yet to win a game,
the Lions will be hell bent on rectifying the result today.
There is plenty riding on this game, and Cardross will
see this as their best opportunity to get a win on the board for a few weeks.
But Meringur have so much to play for at the moment, and you get the sense that
complacency will not be an issue for them today.
The final game of the round sees traditional rivals,
Bambill and Werrimull, clash at Mildura Senior College.
It is obvious the gap in talent between these sides is
enormous, and the Saints will head into the clash as almost unbeatable
favourites.
But what the Magpies lack in skill is made up in fierce
determination, and against their traditional rivals, Werrimull will be hard at
it today.
However, the Saints’ size and strength around the ground
has proved too good for all challengers this year, and with the firepower they
possess up forward, Werrimull will need everything to go right for them if they
are to knock off Bambill today.
