As the 2009 season passes the halfway mark, teams
hoping to claim a finals spot need to make every post a winner from here on in,
which makes Round 10 of the Millewa Football League all the more important.
In a crunch game this
afternoon, Gol Gol take on Meringur at Carramar Drive. Meringur need this win
to keep in touch with the top 4, as they strive to keep their finals chances
alive. Before their bye last week, the
Roos knocked off the reigning premiers Euston by 8-points, and this will
provide a massive boost to their confidence as they head into battle today.
The Hawks are also
coming off a solid win against the Bombers, and look to be gathering some
serious momentum. In the coming weeks, Gol Gol will be looking to secure second
spot on the table, and need to keep winning games like today if they are to
achieve this goal.
There is no doubt the
Roos will have a red hot-crack, but Gol Gol’s dominant forwards and strong
midfield should get them over the line.
Nangiloc host Bambill
in a match that should be a fantastic spectacle for the fans out at Nangiloc
Reserve.
The Demons were too
quick for Werrimull last week, but will need to be better with their disposal
by foot if they are to challenge Bambill today. Nangiloc’s strength is their
ability to cut teams up with their pace in the midfield, and they will be
looking to unleash their youthful running brigade today.
However, they will be
up against the only undefeated side in the competition in Bambill, who continued
their fine form with a crushing win against Cardross last week. The Saints will
be looking to get on top early in the clearances and to out muscle the young
Demons around the ground.
In front of their
home fans, the Demons will provide tough opposition for the ladder leaders at
home, but you would expect the Saints to continue their unbeaten run today.
The final game of the
round sees Cardross and Euston battle it out at Cardross Reserve. Both teams
are desperate for a win, and will be stopping at nothing to make sure they come
out on top come the final siren.
The Lions are stuck
on the bottom of the ladder with no wins next to their name, and desperately
need a win to boost the morale around this proud club. The Lions were no match
for the dominant Bambill side last week, and will be looking for an improved
performance today.
As for the reigning
premiers, the Bombers just need a win to steady themselves after some midseason
wobbles, and today presents a perfect opportunity to get back on the winner’s list.
With this in mind, the Bombers should prove too strong for the struggling
Lions.
