Sparks will fly as
arch rivals Cardross and Nangiloc clash in a match that is expected to be a
fiery contest, as Round 7 of the Millewa Football League kicks off today.
Matches between the Lions and Demons are traditionally
spiteful contests, and with Cardross coming off the bye refreshed and ready,
Nangiloc will need to be on their toes if they are to take away the victory in
this one.
The Demons have played some great footy against some of the
league heavyweights in the past month, but they ran out of legs against Gol Gol
last week, and will be looking to get back on track today. David Mike and
Cameron Peters have been in fantastic touch for Nangiloc this year, and they
will be looking to cause havoc among their Cardross opponents this afternoon.
However, they will have to hold off a determined Lions
outfit, who in their last two matches have suffered two heartbreaking losses.
Cardross at their best are quite a competitive unit, and with the trademark run
off half back from Jason Bolitho, the Lions will certainly fancy themselves in
this contest.
This one is sure to be a rough and tough contest, and there
is no doubt that there will be some sore bodies come Sunday morning. However,
the difference between Cardross’ best football and their worst just leaves too
much room for inconsistency, and Nangiloc should have enough class and pace
around the ground to out run the Lions.
Bottom of the table Werrimull travel to Carramar Drive this
afternoon, as they look to register their first win for the year against the in
form Gol Gol.
The Pies were well and truly in the hunt up until halftime
against Meringur last week, and if they can display the same consistency for
four quarters today, Werrimull will provide a real challenge for the Hawks.
Colby Loxton has discovered some good form in recent weeks, and the Pies will
be hoping his pace through the midfield can break the game open for them.
However, Gol Gol is in supreme form at the moment, and with
so many good options up forward capable of kicking a big score, the Pies
defence will be under constant pressure today.
Many people believe that a win is not far away for
Werrimull, and if they can manage to play four good quarters of football, then
victory number one may be close by. However, coach Jason Wilkie has got the
Hawks playing some really attractive football at the moment, and they will
prove too strong for the Pies.
The final game of the round sees Meringur take on the all
conquering Bambill at the Lake.
The Roos were sluggish in patches against Werrimull last
week, but a lift in intensity after half time enabled Meringur to pull away in
the second half. Colin Keatch has been consistently named in the best for
Meringur this year, and Bambill will see him as a real threat that they will
need to shut down. However, the Roos cannot afford any slip ups against the
Saints today, who have not looked like getting beaten so far this year.
Bambill passed a real test last week by easily accounting
for reigning premiers Euston, and with the likes of Brant Reid and Ben Milsom
having terrific seasons, the Saints are quickly firming as premiership
favourites.
Meringur will need all guns blazing if they are to shut down
the rampaging Bambill machine, but with so much class in the Saints side, they
should continue their unbeaten start to the year with a solid win over the Roos
today.
