Round 6 of the Millewa Football League sees
two league powerhouses in Bambill and Euston battle it out in a top of the
table clash at Mildura Senior College.
Both the Saints and the Bombers head into this
encounter undefeated after five rounds, and the form of both sides early on
suggests an absolute cracker is in store.
The Bombers are coming off a solid 10-goal
win against the bottom of the table Werrimull last round, while Bambill are
coming off a bye and will be fresh and ready to go come 2.30pm this afternoon.
Both sides possess dangerous forwards capable
of kicking big bags of goals, and this will certainly be a highlight during the
course of the match. With Bambill containing the likes Brett Haase, David Hall
and Ben Milsom at one end, and Euston having Sean Smith, Felix Liparota and
Jamie Buchanan at the other, an entertaining matchup is on the cards.
This match will showcase the cream of the
crop in Millewa Football, and donât be surprised if the attacking game plan
from both sides results in a high scoring shootout. Although the reigning
premiers will pose a massive threat to Bambillâs unbeaten run, the Saints are
up and about at the moment, and the home ground advantage may just get them
over the line against the Bombers.
Traditional rivals Meringur and Werrimull
battle it out at Lake Cullulleraine today, in a game that both sides will be
determined to win.
These two clubs are coming off loses from
their previous starts, and this will ensure a fiery contest as both teams fight
hard to get themselves back on the winnerâs list.
Werrimull were out classed against the reigning
premiers last week, and are still looking for their first win in 2009. Matt
Kelly and Michael Moodie have stood up for the Pies this year, but they need
the whole unit to be firing if they are to get a win on the board. Magpie
supporters will be hoping their boys can break the drought today, as there is
nothing better than toppling their Lake Cullulleraine co-tenants.
But they will need to be at their best to
knock off the Roos, who were beaten by a young Nangiloc outfit last week.
Meringur will see this as chance to boost their percentage, and need to win
games like this consistently if they are play finals this year. Carlo Longeri
and Colin Keatch have been wonderful leaders for the Roos this year, and if
they are playing well, Meringur are certainly a force to be reckoned with.
There is no doubt the intensity of a game
lifts a couple of notches when playing traditional rivals, and Werrimull will
be hoping this inspires them to their first win of the year. However the Roos
have more to play for today, and will be determined not to slip up and fall a
further 4 points behind the pack.
The final game of the round sees an
established heavyweight in Gol Gol clash against an up and coming challenger in
Nangiloc at Nangiloc Reserve.
After two very impressive performances
against the top two teams, the Demons finally broke through for a win last week,
as they toppled Meringur by 17-points. There is much to like about this
Nangiloc side, and with a few handy recruits and Cameron Peters playing well, finals
should definitely be the aim for the Demons this year.
Their opponents Gol Gol are brimming with
confidence, after coming off a 248-point victory against Cardross. The Gol Gol
forwards certainly had their kicking boots on last week, in particular Kaleb
Sherwell who kicked 15 of the Hawks 40 goals for the day, and the Nangiloc
defenders will have their work cut out for them if they are to stop the rampaging
Gol Gol forward line today.
This will be a close contest, and after a
grueling month competing against some of the stronger teams in the league,
Nangiloc are primed to have a crack at the Hawks. However, Gol Gol will start favorites
for this one, and should have enough experience to take the points today.
