ANNOUNCEMENT - Goannas head coach & assistant coach

Deaf Basketball Australia is pleased to announce that Brent Reid, former Head Coach of the Sherbrooke Suns in the Big V competition, has been selected as Head Coach of the Goannas.

Brent comes to Deaf Basketball Australia with an impressive and extensive playing and coaching experience in premier competitions such as the SEABL and Big V, having played for Knox Raiders and Kilsyth Cobras at SEABL level and Sherbrooke Suns in Big V. Upon retiring as a player in 2011, Brent continued his junior coaching career and was able to work through the ranks and be Head Coach for Warrandyte Venom in their inaugural season in the Big V Youth League 2 Men in 2012 and last year gained a promotion as Head Coach of a Big V team in Sherbrooke Suns. Sherbrooke were widely tipped across the league to be battlers however Brent was able to transform them into a very disciplined and defensive team and made the finals in the recently completed 2013/2014 Big V season, finishing 3rd.

Brent is very excited about the prospect of coaching the Goannas - "I am very proud and excited to be coaching the Goannas. I am very keen to help these young men take the next step in their representative careers and hopefully help raise awareness of these boys playing in local Big V and State league competitions around Australia. Our ultimate goal is bringing home some jewelry from the 2017 Deaflympics."

In addition to the Brent's appointment, Deaf Basketball Australia have also appointed an Assistant Coach - Ramas Rentelis. Ramas is well known in deaf basketball circles worldwide, and brings to the Goannas program an illustrious playing and coaching experience at the international deaf basketball level - having played for Great Britain at 2011 Deaf Basketball World Championships, as well as the 2012 European Deaf Basketball Championships. He was also coach for Great Britain U/21 Boys at the U/21 World and European Championships in recent times.

Both these appointments are for the period to December 2017, to include the 2017 Deaflympics in Turkey.

Deaf Basketball Australia are excited by these appointments and we wish both Brent and Ramas every success with the Goannas program as they prepare for two major tournaments in 2015 - the World Deaf Basketball Championships in July and the Asia Pacific Deaf Games in October.
