Bulldogs 22 9 141 def Eagles 6 11 47
A welcome return to Wayne Sullivan, the reigning NPC Captain and Bulldogs mid-fielder, saw the Bulldogs swamp the Eagles from the first bounce. Coach Peterson took the field and lined up at full forward, allowing James Smith (Jimbo) to roam the mid-field and link nicely with the other Bulldog mid-fielders. The Eagles tried manfully, but sadly missed some key players who were unavailable. They actually outscored the Dogs in the final quarter, but it was too little, too late. The Bulldogs have sounded a warning shot to the other teams.
Blues 10 12 72 def Cougars 10 11 71
Anyone at the ground in the first half would have left believing that the Cougar's "A" team had taken the field and that it would be a cake walk to victory. The Blues, however, had other plans and somehow managed to take control of the game after half time. They dominated the aerial contests and used this to their advantage, moving the ball directly up the middle to their tall targets. The Cougars did not help themselves with loose checking in the backline and almost a complete inability to contest the high ball. Richard Bradley marked strongly in the forward fifty and converted truly on several occasions in that third term, bringing the Blues within striking distance at the last change. To their credit, the Cougars steeled themselves and maintained their lead, albeit with wasteful shots on goal in the final term. A critical turnover in the dying mimute, saw two Cougars lose posession, resulting in a long bomb to the Blues goal square. With 8-seconds to go, the ball was snapped through the big sticks and it was heartbreak for the Cougars, but celebration time for the Blues, who taken some big scalps in the past two weeks.
