In game one, Newtown took on Sydney University at St Paul's Oval. After a brilliant introduction where our umpires slipped on their bottom when doing the ballups, Newtown shot out to an early lead in the first quarter. Sydney University were competitive and dominated the last quarter but the lead was too big and the end result was a 26 point win to the Breakaways with the score 10.15.75-7.7.49
In game two, the Balmain Dockers hosted the Bondi Shamrocks at pictursque waterfront Drummoyne Oval. The contest was like an arm struggle for the first three quarters. However Balmain had plenty of forward thrusts into their attacking 50m arc but were held out on the final line by a determined back six led by coach Lisa Roper. The score was 18-17 at three quarter time. In the final quarter the Shamrocks found a new sense of purpose and kicked four goals in the quarter to the Dockers one to record their first victory in the league. The score was 6.7.43 to 3.5.23.
In game three, St George took on UNSW Easts. Any nightmares of the shock loss last year at the same venue were banished by a strong Dragons performance. Brittany Day and Clare Crewdson came into their element supported by their teammates whilst the Stingrays tried hard all day and had their chances when the wind was coming from their backs. The score was 9.6.60 to 2.4.16
