Western Wolves narrowly pipped at the post
The Western Wolves had a great bonding roadtrip to Gumly Gumly Oval, Wagga Wagga to play the Riverina Lions. The Lions contain Mel Hyland who was the SWAFL 2006 SWAFL best and fairest winner. So with both sides fielding many inexperienced players, both coaches hand an opportunity to experiment and find out what their new recruits were capable of. Signs were very encouraging as evidenced by Wests preseason win over Balmain in the Michelle Daley Shield match.
Played in the heavy rain, both sides contested the ball with Wests in front by a goal at half time.
In the second half, Riverina fought hard in the second half and emerged victorious by a point at full-time.
Score: Riverina Lions 4.5.29 Western Wolves 4.4.28
