The Bondi Shamrocks will be holding their launch party at their primary sponsor City of Sydney RSL on Saturday Feb 21 at 5pm. Coincidently Happy Hour also starts then, making any fans, visitors or the merely curious worth their while. Combined with City of Sydney's world famous low prices on alcohol, the occassion is destined to be a happy one for all concerned. This is an open invitation for all in the SWAFL World to come and celebrate the 7th team of the 2009 season.
Since SWAFL.Org checked out the Bondi Shamrocks in the golden sands of Coogee Beach in December 2008, the Shamrocks have continued their training with a team-bonding surf camp. It was alleged that everyone who went to the South Coast managed to stand up on their surfboards by the end of the weekend.
Coach Lisa "Kiwi" Roper has put a comprehensive training plan to get the growing band of teammates acquainted on Australian Rules Football skills, laws and game-sense drills. With only a couple of weeks to the first scratch match in March and first league match on April 18, time is of the essence. I was well impressed at the athleticisim and skill of the rookies and thinks that they will handle the transition to the oval-shaped ball with much optimism. However as the philosopher Sarte might have once said "In football, everything is complicated by the presence of the other team" which will be the true test of character.
Of course the club continues to accept new recruits, just visit their website to find out more http://www.bondishamrocks.com/
Training at the Bondi Shamrocks is at 7pm on Monday and Thursday nights at the Bat and Ball Oval. This is located on Cleveland St, Moore Park. You can park at Sydney Boys/Girls High or at Moore Park Golf Course.
Saturday sessions are held at 9am, Coogee Beach (northern end next to the Beach Palace Hotel).
