Season 2009 sees the return of the Dragon and the 'Red & White's' with the Club going back to its roots with it's branding - the St
George Dragons. The pre-season officially kicks off for the women's team on Monday 16th February.
On Tuesday night (9/2/09), the Club announced the appointment of Gary Slowgrove as coach of the women's team.
Gary has been involved in the Sydney and NSW development squad coaching staff. He has previously coached at Ramsgate RSL and in more recent years coached junior St George rep sides. The team and Club are excited to be working with Gary this year.
"The Club welcomes the return of Gary Slowgrove to the St George Club as coach of the women's team in 2009. We are sure with his experience and eagerness to work with the girls, the team is set for a big year and the Club looks forward to the continued development and success of the women's team in 2009". John Addison (Dragons Football Manager)
Gary's appointment couldn't have come at a better time - the team enters its 3rd season in the SWAFL competition and with more rookies entering the team in 2009, the new coach's influence will be fundamental to the team's success.
"The team is really excited going into this season. With a new coach and new fitness trainer, the girls are really keen to work together and develop their skills. There is definitely a renewed enthusiasm within the team. We know we still have a long way to go but the feeling is that we're heading in the right direction. By the time April comes around we'll all be itching to get out onto the field!" Christine Coles (Team Captain)
The team's first game of the season will be on Saturday 18th April with possible trial games in March. We'd love to see you come down to a game and cheer the team on this season!
The St George Australian Football Club will be conducting training sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights at Olds Park from 16 Feb at 6:30pm Olds Park located on Forest Rd, Penshurst.
