Coronavirus Association Update

Hi Everyone,

As you are aware the Corona virus is having a significant affect across the globe and in our daily lives.  As a result we have entered a challenging and unprecedented period that is changing constantly.

We will continue to take advice from Basketball Australia (BA) and Government which will inform our decision making.  A number of Associations have contacted us with questions we will do our best to answer.  As you can appreciate the situation is constantly changing where information can be superseded hourly.  It will take time to understand what this means for us and we will update Associations on receipt of further information.

As previously advised, we have cancelled the U12/U16 JCC's as result of the Government and BA announcement regarding mass gatherings.  We are not considering rescheduling the JCC's at this time, as the future impact of the Corona virus is uncertain.

We have received no further update from BA regarding the Australian Junior Championships.  Therefore we will wait for this advice before reviewing SPP centralised training.  No further centralised training or the U18 Singlet Presentation match is scheduled until the 28th March 20 and we are sure we will receive advice in the coming hours or days from BA and the Government of further updates and measures to be taken.

We are aware that Associations have finals scheduled in the coming weeks, as previously advised BA recommends competitions do not proceed and this position is maintained until further notice.

If the Association makes the decision to proceed with competitions BA recommends the following restrictions:

  1. Only support personnel and parents should attend games
  2. Anyone experiencing symptoms or believe they may have been in contact with someone with Corona virus should not attend
  3. People over the age 50 should reconsider attending
  4. Visible signage should be displayed before entry and throughout the venue notifying patrons of potential risks
  5. All venues should have sanitiser and/or wipes upon entrance and exit readily available
  6. Non essential competitions should have no more than 500 people in attendance

In addition to the above measures an Association may consider a 'lock out' of non essential people for senior competitions, this is not an option for junior competitions due to member protection challenges.

These are clearly challenging times and we ask that we support each other and work together in the face of adversity.  Your ongoing support, patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.  Remain calm, follow medical advice in identifying symptoms and the process for seeking further medical attention or self isolate in accordance with medical and Government advice.

Please disregard speculation and rumours unless you have received official advice from SACBCI or Government. We will continue to update Associations as advice is received.

Regards

Regards,
Julie Anderson
