Return to Sport

Hi Everyone,

You may have seen or heard the Federal Government announcement on Friday evening (01/05/20) for a planned and staged return to community sport.
Current stadium closures remain in place and current restrictions prohibit a return of indoor sport at this stage.

Included in the National Cabinet update was:
  • An agreement to bring forward the review of the first phase of removing baseline restrictions on Friday, 8 May 2020
  • The consideration and endorsement of the ‘National Principles for the Resumption of Sport and Recreation Activities’
  • A ‘Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment’ was developed by the AIS
State and Territory Governments are responsible for sport and recreation resumption decisions, at the professional and community level and will determine the progression through the phases, taking account of local virus transmissions, risk mitigation strategies and public health capability.

Basketball South Australia (BSA) has developed a return to sport framework for Basketball Associations and providers within SA. The framework is designed to provide Associations and Clubs with the structure for reactivating our game in a safe manner.

BSA submitted the framework to SA Health and the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing (ORSR) outlining our proposed return to Basketball. The department will be guided by changes to Federal Government policy including the lifting of restrictions and access to stadiums. In addition, SA Health will require SA Police Commissioner to sign off on Basketball South Australia’s proposed return to sport framework.

A return to basketball will be staged with a 1. Return to train and a 2 Return to play. Associations will need to work in collaboration with venue management to ensure compliance with the requirements within the framework.

It is anticipated that state government will continue to conduct fortnightly reviews and implement a gradual increase in the of number of people gathering.  There is no definitive date for reopening as it is subject a number of levels of approval and lifting of restrictions.

As information becomes available we will update Associations.  We will schedule a zoom conferencing meeting in the future for Associations to attend, once the framework is approved and restrictions are lifted, to work through the requirements and provide an opportunity for Q&A's.

As always we are available to discuss your concerns.

Regards,
