LONG WEEKEND TOURNAMENTS

A note from Vice President Basketball, David Durant -

“What a great weekend for the Club.
We had three teams invited to the Classics – Under 12 Boys, Under 14 Boys and Under 16 Boys.

All three competed well with the Under 12 boys only losing to two of the top four sides by 3 and 2 points respectively. We know at the Classics any loss can really hurt, but the boys were
undaunted and needed to beat Kielor in the semi-final to have a shot at being top team for
SA. Unfortunately, that game featured some unique umpiring, which bordered on coaching, and the boys finished 12th. Just so good to see us at the event, and only losing by tiny margins, an excellent effort.

The Under 14’s went to Melbourne without their two tall players, and it was a privilege to watch
them play. They played their hearts out and beat some very BIG teams. In the end, size probably hurt them, and they too finished 12th, but they played outstanding basketball, and will be a threat at the Under 14 national Championship later this year – when they will have their two tall players back. Wonderful effort boys.

Our Under 16 boys rallied after a shock loss in the first game, but played some great basketball to finish 4th overall, despite Fiston Ipassou not playing in their play-off game for 3rd/4th place. This team has been invited to Rome to attend a specialist basketball academy in October, and we wish them well there, and as they graduate to under 18’s.

We also had 19 teams journey to the Nunawading tournament, where some met with good success, like:-

Under 16 Boys 4.1 – 2nd
Under 14 Boys 2 – 2nd

Under 16 Boys 3.1 – 1st
Under 16 Girls 2 – 1st
Under 14 Boys 3.2 – 2nd

Under 14 Girls 2 - 1st.

.
A number of teams got to semi-finals at Nunawading, so it was a pretty successful weekend for the Club.

Well done to all, and I gather everyone got back safely despite the wild thunderstorm, and some
unusual drivers.”
