Ladies Preliminary Final

Ladies Preliminary Final

After a close game, but disappointing loss to the minor premiers, Norwood Flames; last week, our North Adelaide Women’s Rockets have again shown why they deserve to be in the Grand Final after defeating South in the second semi final on Saturday night.

The first quarter was very close and intense but Shannon’s silky shots gave us some excitement! The starting five remained the same: Jamie-Lee; Jo; Kirsty; Lauren and Shannon who again dominated playing time, as they went to the break 18 to 16.

The second quarter was again close with Jess getting some good court time and making some terrific lay-ups, again getting the crowd excited and cheering loudly. At the long break, the score was 36 to 33.

The Rockettes were entertaining as usual, thank you to them and their families and their coach for such fabulous routines and support all year. Again big thank you to all our volunteers, committee, supporters and families who work hard and cheer our team on.

South played hard and had by no means given up their Grand Final dream in the third quarter, with intense pressure and good close defence from both teams. The Rockets just had to stay cool, as Lauren was in foul trouble and the team all played hard. The score was a tie at the end of the quarter and hearts were pounding.

Sarah led the plays well and gave Jess Mahoney no space on the court. Opal was a handy return into the team and it was very nerve wracking. The Rockets showed great skill to build a lead, with a final score of 72 to 62 to secure a Grand Final spot against the Norwood Flames at Titanium Security Stadium (the Dome) on Saturday night at 615pm.

Jamie Lee Peris top scoring with 17 points and 14 rebounds, Jess Cook 15 points, Shannon McKay 15 points and 4 assists, Sarah Elsworthy 10 points and Jo Hill with 8 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists.

Come early to get a good seat and join the red and white cheer squad, as we cheer on our reigning Premiers to a back to back Grand Final win!
