OSEP Zone 1 Staff Orientation
“Keep Progressing”
“Baaam”! The final day of the Oceania Sport Education Program (OSEP) North Pacific Staff Orientation came to an end on Thursday, April 2, 2015. The four-day workshop’s goal was to provide the new regional staff an orientation into their roles and the program. The OSEP north pacific staff include Daniel Ramngen of Yap, Corrine Hideos of Palau, and Kevin Harkey of Republic of Marshall Islands. Pohnpei has recently hired a new sport education officer who will be based out of the Pohnpei Sport Office.
Some of the topics covered in the orientation include a review of roles and responsibilities, identifying funding streams for the program, analyzing key result areas and key performance indicators, looking at each National Olympic Committee’s organizational structure, strategic plans, and developing work plans and calendar of events. North Pacific staff were also tasked to develop personal action plans and include them in their work plans. The group was led by the north pacific coordinator Jubilee Kuartei and the regional coordinator Sainimili Talatoka.
All the participants had a fun, challenging, but great time. The fun and learning came to an end with the staff returning back to their respective countries to manage the development of Sport Education in their countries.
A closing dinner was hosted by Mrs. Laura Mangham who is a board member of PNOC but is also on the Oceania National Olympic Committee’s (ONOC) Education Commission Board that oversees the OSEP program in Oceania. The local OSEP educators in Palau joined the closing dinner event including Johnny Sokau and Tutii Chilton and the Secretary General of PNOC, Minister Baklai Temengil.
OSEP Zone 1 coordinator Ms. Kuartei and OSEP north pacific staff would like to thank the Palau National Olympic Committee for their support in hosting the North Pacific Staff Orientation in Palau. We also would like to thank Swingly Aguon of Swing’s Tour for his rock island trip donation. Thank you to the facilitators! We had a great time and learned so much. As Henry Ford says “Coming together is a BEGINNING, Keeping together is PROGRESS, and Working together is SUCCESS.”
