With days to go till London 2012, we caught up with Palauan athletes, Keesha Keane and Ruby Joy Gabriel, on how they have improved and what they are looking forward to since arriving in the North West. They expressed their excitement and hopes for their events in the London 2012 Olympics.
Palauan athlete, Keesha Keane, is the only swimmer from her country to qualify for the London 2012 Olympics in which she will be compete in the 50meters freestyle. At the age of 15 she became the first female Palauan swimmer to clock in less than 30 seconds, with a time of 29.99 seconds and now, at the age of 16, she will be representing her country in front of millions of people watching the 2012 Olympics.
Similarly at the age of 16 she is regarded as Palau's number one swimmer and hopes that her appearance in the Olympics will help to inspire others to get involved and join swimming clubs, similar to how she began her journey as they may get the "opportunity too." Keesha's passion for swimming began when her parents wanted to get her to learn to swim, after attending many swimming lessons and swimming camps Keesha found her strength in swimming and has continued since, thanks to the help of her "parents and country."
