Table Tennis holds Clinic

With the assistance of Palau National Olympic Committe, Belau Table Tennis Association was able to secure funding through Olympic Solidarity to bring in a table tennis expert to Palau to conduct table tennis clinics at the beginner's level.

Scott Houston, Oceania Development Officer in Table Tennis, arrived in Palau in the early hours of Saturday, 29 August 2009. Much later in the day, Elite Training Sessions began at 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and continued at the same time on Sunday. From Monday to Wednesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., "ITTF School Teacher Certificate Coaching Course" was held at the National Gym. In addition to conducting the courses, Scott was also able to make visits to two public schools-Palau High School and Ngiwal Elementary School-to introduce the table tennis program. This was Scott's first visit to Palau; and according to Scott the whole trip was a total success.

There were a total of 89 people who participated in the programs; 71 students partook in the School Visits; 8 athletes took part in the Elite Training and 10 individuals participated in the ITTF School Teacher Certificate Coaching Course. The 10 people who completed the course include: Jonathan Kaminsky, Orachel Watanabe, Dembei Watanabe, Jasminie Watanabe, Judge Patrick, Mellomes Rengulbai, Valenzuela Von, Carson Mesubed, Sngebard Delong and Sam Saunders.
