ROUND SEVENTEEN: Southern Tigers v Sturt Sabres

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

Sturt currently have a game in hand behind the league-leading Eagles who continue to jostle for top position. Despite this game in hand, some glimpses of fantastic play by the Tigers shows that they are still able to put the pressure on. Unfortunately, an disappointing final term saw the Tigers lose to Forestville last week after leading the Eagles by 15-points heading into the final quarter. Forestville outscored the Tigers 26-3 in the fourth handing them the victory in the process.

After this poor outing, the Tigers will look for redemption against the Sabres and show that they are capable of defending against another title contender who also struggled last weekend. Sturt fell to the Mavericks after failing to contain the dominant Tyson-Thomas. Tyson-Thomas scored 41-points in only a short 28-minutes and also cemented her position as a Halls Medalist contender.

These two sides only faced mere weeks ago and it was here when the Sabres walked away victors by only 2-points. The close matchup in Round 14 and eagerness to bounce back from their performances will help exhibit a great outing from both sides.

Hang Time Prediction: Sturt Sabres

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Tigers will be reeling after their one-point loss to Forestville on Sunday and keen to bounce back when they face a struggling Sabres side this weekend. Southern defended the Eagles relatively well, holding them to below 100 points, but this was not enough. The team was not able to execute when it mattered most and paid the price with a devastating loss. Turnage was strong for his side, recording 36 points, six assists and 12 boards. If the Tigers repeat this effort against the Sabres this week, there is almost no chance of Sturt producing an upset. Sturt did manage to record their second win of the season in Round 16 however, defeating the Mavericks 84-90 and moving from last to ninth on the ladder. Their defence was on fire, forcing 20 turnovers and recording 13 steals to lead to a much-welcomed win. The team also clicked on offence, with the starting five all reaching double figures. If Sturt can produce the same defensive play, they may be a chance in this one but it’s hard to bet against the Tigers.

Hang Time Prediction: Southern Tigers
