ROUND SIXTEEN: West Adelaide Bearcats v Mount Gambier Pioneers

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

After knocking off the Eagles in a 2-point thriller last weekend, the Bearcats continue their uphill battle to the end of the season against the Pioneers. In this meeting of 3rd vs 4th, the winner has the opportunity to climb and continue to solidify their finals positions. Sky Langenbrinck and Jasmin Fejo led the Bearcats to victory over the tough Eagles by posting 18 and 17-points respectively and aim to continue their form. Despite facing a defensively strong outfit in West Adelaide, Mount Gambier boast their own offensive weaponry in Frost and Roberts who made mincemeat out of the Centrals in Round 15. Frost and Roberts combined for 52-points and almost outscoring the entire Lions squad in the process. The sharing of minutes and the ball will be crucial in this one with the Bearcats being known to smother offences and force unneeded turnovers! In arguably game of the round, the Pioneers will head back to the mount with another win over the Bearcats under their belt, but it will not be an easy victory.

Hang Time Prediction: Mt Gambier Pioneers

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Bearcats got a win against the Sabres last round but will be smarting after their loss the day after to Forestville, 104-88. The team was overwhelmed by the attacking threat of the Eagles and could not get any rhythm going on offence. Kubank and Johnson were strong for their side however, and there will be hope that if they can repeat this form and get some more help from their team then they might be a chance of an upset. The Pioneers are red-hot though, especially after dismantling the Lions 133-77. Mt Gambier’s teamwork looks too hard to beat, and with another 38 assists against Central Districts it looks as if they could be in season-best form. The team had an extremely even contribution on both the offensive and defensive end, with players like Barkley, the Daly brothers, Burdon, Rathjen and Hunter all looking deadly. It’s tough to see the Pioneers going down in this one.
