ROUND FIVE: Central Districts Lions vs West Adelaide Bearcats

WOMEN by Adam Jones

The Bearcats are coming off a close loss which saw them lead with 7 seconds to go after a big fight back in the fourth, while the Lions had another disappointing second half performance as they lost to the Tigers. The Lions while not being happy with the result will be very happy with the emergence of youngster Erin Schrapel as she scored a season-high 19 points. The Lions will hope Schrapel will be able to keep this play up and help out MVP candidate Jazmen Boone. The Bearcats will be hungry for a result and Alex Pearce will be looking to respond after her two free throws missed late in the game on Saturday hurt the Bearcats.

MEN by Daniel Renfrey

The Lions’ 16-point loss to Southern in Round 4 exposed some weakness to defensive pressure in their offence. The team could not deal with the tight and intense style of defence played by the Tigers and, as a result, gave up 21 turnovers. This also led to struggles in transition defence, and was a significant factor in their loss. Walsh and Jones put in decent shifts for Central Districts but they are going to need more support against a West Adelaide team seeking to bounce back from their loss against the Flames. Despite 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals from Bryan Jefferson, the Bearcats were not able to overcome the suffocating defence and team-oriented offence of Norwood. However, West Adelaide have proved they can be a force in the early-season and if they can recollect themselves and play the way they are capable of playing they should be able to come out of this one with a win.
