ROUND SIXTEEN: Woodville Warriors v Southern Tigers

WOMEN by Kieren Vartuli

Rolling off a pair of strong wins each, the Warriors and Tigers clash at St Clair in a battle for a potential finals berth. Their last meeting saw the Warriors overcome the Tigers by only 7-points back in Round 5 behind Sherrie Session’s game high 19-points. Heading into this week’s battle, the Warriors’ Terese Kinross will be aiming to keep her good form rolling after notching an extra 17-points and in turn taking some of the scoring pressure off Morrell (20-ppg). Any extra help on the offensive end against the Tigers is beneficial due to their defensive prowess. After an offensively dominant evening by Denelle Fawcett last week (36-pts and 11-reb), the Warriors will be focusing on her defensively and keeping her from the line. Effective on all areas of the offensive end, Fawcett led her team to victory over the Mavericks at home and in turn cut the difference on the table between them and Norwood to a single point. With the seasons end looming and finals positions not completely set, the entire league still has much to play for especially the sides who are outside looking in.

Hang Time Prediction: Southern Tigers

The Warriors’ 117-87 win over South Adelaide in Round 15 will have given them a much-needed boost to their confidence as they face one of the league’s best teams this week. 32 assists on only 12 turnovers ensured Woodville kept control of the game and grabbed a convincing win. The combined production of Clippinger, Maiorana, Boonstoppel and Stanbridge was also significant in their win, and will be needed against the Tigers. Southern were simply too good for the Mavericks, locking them down on the defensive end and allowing that to propel their offence, which was led by an impressive Gilligan and Turnage duo. The two combined for 52 points and 20 rebounds, and if they can repeat this, they won’t lose this week. This one should be intriguing but should see the Tigers come out on top when the dust settles.

Hang Time Prediction: Southern Tigers
