New Futures Squad announced to run alongside 2012 Youth Girls Academy

As well as the 2012 Youth Girls Academy, a Futures Squad will run for girls seen as future representative footballers.

The Youth Girls Academy will be a restructured program in 2012 in preparation for the National Youth Girls Championships in May next year.

There will be a greater focus on strength & conditioning to prepare the girls for elite performance, as well as the off field development aspect of program to remain.

51 players are invited to be part of the Academy and were announced at Youth Girls Presentation night on Sunday in Footscray.

Players not taking up their invitation will be replaced by those on a supplementary list.

A letter will be sent to those invited girls in November with more details about the program.

Also announced, a brand new Futures Squad, for girls that AFL Victoria sees as future representative players. These girls will attend three full day training sessions throughout next year as a stand alone squad to develop their football and will be coached by the Youth Girls Academy coaching team.

For girls that miss out on either of the squads, a state screening session for girls to try out for a place in the Victorian and Development team training squads will be held early next year.
