Warrnambool held their first ever school girls football carnival day last week. Over one hundred girls from Brauer, Emmanuel, Kings and Warrnambool Colleges came together for a whole day football experience. To begin the day four girls from AFL Victoria's Youth Girls Academy led the school girls through a clinic before a round robin fixture of games.
The whole day football carnival will now be annual event, with all schools enjoying the day and having ample numbers to make up teams. The carnival was geared towards generating interest for a new Warrnambool based Youth Girls competition, which will run on Sundays beginning in late July. Seventy girls signed up for the new competition on the day, demonstrating that there is plenty of interest in the community.
AFL Victoria's attention now turns to finalising the four clubs who will host teams in the new competition.
Penny Smith, Amanda Gavin, Eve Aulsebrook, Tayla Ryan and Kelsey Perry were also invited to attend this week's AFL Victoria State Youth Girls screening.
