On Monday night, the MECU Ballarat Football League held an information session and football clinic for girls interested in competing in the first ever Youth Girls Football Competition in Ballarat.
Over 50 people attended the session at Saxon House to show their interest in taking part in the inaugural competition either as a player or volunteer. Four clubs have shown interest in entering a side into this year’s competition and there were many girls at the information session that showed interest in playing for all sides. Ballarat, East Ballarat, Redan and Sebastopol have all shown interest in entering a side in the competition for girls aged 13 to 18. Ballarat’s first ever Youth Girls Competition is due to start on Sunday 10th July with all sides playing each other twice in a six week season. The 2011 season will be capped off with a day of finals with the top two teams playing off in the Major Grand Final and the bottom two teams competing in the Minor Grand Final. The BFL announced that they would be covering the cost of all match day jumpers for the first season for all four clubs to assist the competition in getting off the ground. Players were also provided with the opportunity to register with a club of their choice. If any other players are interested in registering with a club for the 2011 Youth Girls Football season should fill out the attached registration form and submit it to the Ballarat Football League in person to Saxon House, 1431 Mair Street, Ballarat 3350 or via email to aaron@ballaratfl.com.au. Following the information session, AFL Victoria Female Football Development Manager took the girls for a football clinic and skills session. The next steps for clubs will be to appoint coaches and coordinators for each team and then to announce venues, dates and start times of upcoming training sessions. More information will be released over the coming weeks for each individual club. Anyone interested in registering for a club in the first ever Ballarat Football League Youth Girls football competition should contact the BFL on 5333 1977 or drop into Saxon House to pick up a registration form. Also keep an eye on the BFL website for more information about the competition.
