The first ever Youth Girls Academy Preseason Camp was held over the weekend, with seventy players, umpires and staff in attendance.
Held at Alpine Ash Retreat near Toolangi, this year's Academy squad enjoyed a full day of working with the Victoria Police's High Challenge Program. The High Challenge crew challenged the girls with a variety of tasks, games and activities designed to help them get to know one another and learn how to work together. The evening session was dedicated to identifying the key values that will important to this year's Academy squad, and formation of a mission statement that will drive this year's program. Sunday saw the players work on kicking analysis, game sense and contact work with guest coaches Phiv Demetriou, Andrew Jago and Andrew Hayman respectively, whilst the umpires had a focus on team work and goal setting.
Exhausted both physically and mentally, the Academy squad departed feeling a litte more prepared for the challenges season 2010 will bring.
