Worawa College, the school of West Coast Eagles champion David Wirrpanda, is now an all female AFL Sports Academy.
Established in the mid 1980s to cater for indigenous students, the school caters for adolescent middle years students from Years 7-10. Worawa students come from suburban and regional Victoria as well as from interstate. Aboriginal families and communities select Worawa for the education of their young people as the College provides a holistic education program in a respectful learning environment which is foundered in quality relationships. Families/communities see the benefits of both an all Aboriginal school and a boarding school.
A co-educational school until the end of 2009, the school's Board decided to offer a single sex program for girls only from 2010.
AFL Victoria will work with Worawa College from 2010 in delivering football playing and umpiring opportunities to its students.
Worawa College is now taking applications from indigenous girls for the 2010 school year.
