The 2016 VWFL Division One Grand Final looks to be an extremely exciting contest, with undefeated Kew going up against Darebin. James Szabo previews the clash.
Kew go into the clash as favourites, after winning all 14 of their home and away matches this season and defeating second placed Pascoe Vale by 40 points in their Semi Final two weeks ago.
Isabelle Harding, Rachael O’Regan, Lucy Herd, Jessica Burger, Michaela Harding, Gabrielle Mahoney and Shylee Taylor were the best performers for the Bears in the impressive win. Mahoney also contributed with four goals, while Shylee Taylor slotted three of her own.
Kew will expect their side to repeat the effort in the Grand Final to confirm their status of the best team in the division.
While Darebin lost both games to Kew during the year, they went down by just eight points the last time they met.
They’ll also come in with confidence following their victories in the Elimination and Preliminary Finals.
The Falcons recorded a thrilling four-point victory over Whitehorse, before beating Pascoe Vale by 9 points to secure a spot in the Grand Final.
The side had a number of strong performers throughout the finals campaign, with Julia Chiera, Shannon Egan and Cherelle Byrne the most consistent.
Chiera and Egan will need to lead from the front if their team has a chance of pulling off an upset win.
Kew’s magnificent record and Darebin’s impressive form, promises to make this Grand Final one to remember.
It’s expected to be a hard-hitting, intense battle for the flag – a clash not to be missed by any football fan.
The Division One Grand Final starts from 10am this Sunday, September 18 at Piranha Park, Coburg.
The game will be live video streamed on vwfl.com.au
