The inaugural Goldfields Division finals kickoff this weekend, with two big clashes North Oval (No.2) in Ballarat.
In the Semi Final, Lake Wendouree meets MCDFNL Lions in a much anticipated contest.
Wendouree suffered just the one defeat all season to finish in top spot with 10 wins. They started the season with nine straight wins, but stumbled in Round 14 with an eight-point loss to their Semi Final opponents.
It was the third time the two teams had met for the season, with Wendouree accounting for the Lions in Round 4 by 54 points and in Round 9 by 14 points. In Round 14 however, a four-goal first term set up the win for the Lions, helping them to finish the season with three straight victories.
MCDFNL joins Wendouree as the only clubs to record a win against all four opponents in 2016, but the Lions have also suffered defeats to all finalists. They finished the season with eight wins and four defeats, and in the last month they have been known to start quickly, and have been able to hang on after establishing match winning leads.
In the Elimination Final, Bacchus Marsh and East Point both finished the season separated by a game, Bacchus Marsh finishing on six wins, and East Point five.
The teams met on three occasions, with East Point grabbing the win in Round 4 by 17 points, before wins to Bacchus Marsh in Round 9 by 47 and Round 14 by 18 points.
The winner of the Elimination Final will play the loser of Lake Wendouree vs MCDFNL, with both teams having recording a win against the Lions this season.
