Kim Ebb loves football.
The Seaford key position player, who plays her 200th VWFL game this weekend, enjoys the comradery, the mateship and being part of a team that football brings.
This passion for the game she is now a veteran of is highlighted by the fact she played a major part in helping set up her first VWFL side in 1999.
With no Youth Girls back then, and no longer able to play football with the boys, there was no choice but to develop a new side to continue her football career.
“I whinged, complained and sooked to mum for long enough that she helped me get a side together,” Ebb said.
“I forced my sister to come and play, along with my friend. She forced her sister to play. Her dad coached, my mum assistant coached, and we managed to pull girls from all over the place and managed to put a team together.
“It was a very young team, playing against grown women.”
Times have changed since her first club Ferntree Gully played Boronia each week, back to back, week after week.
From Ferntree Gully Ebb moved to Eastern Lions, and then played under their new adopted club of Scoresby where she enjoyed the most successful stage of her career with four premierships – including a three-peat from 2007-2009.
Ebb also enjoyed the honour of being a premiership captain, with the 2008 title the one that brings back the best memories.
“Scoresby’s 2008 premiership against Berwick – they were undefeated all year and we came back and surprised them,” she said.
The nerves are evident leading into game 200 for Ebb, but the milestone is not the main focus for her this weekend.
The Tigerettes travel to North Geelong, to face the side they were defeated by one-point in the 2014 Division 2 Grand Final.
The two teams find themselves in familiar positions again this season, with Seaford undefeated on top of the Division 1 ladder, and North Geelong in second spot with just one loss. The winner will be on top of the ladder after Round 8.
“North Geelong will be hungry for a win.
“There has been a great rivalry between the two of us since last year and I am more thinking about that, than the milestone.”
Ebb is in just her second season at Seaford, after moving clubs at the end of 2013 due to a move to the Mornington Peninsula.
While her first season did not produce a premiership, it did provide a club best and fairest at Seaford. Ebb had previously won two club best player awards, but also achieved an amazing run of eight runners up awards previously at Scoresby - all behind good friend Mel Kuys.
As she runs out onto the field this weekend in the Grand Final rematch, her regular cheer squad of her mum and dad will be there to watch her play the milestone game.
With their support she continued to play football in 1999, and they will be very proud this weekend of what she has achieved, and what still might be on the horizon as her career continues.
It starts with game 200 this weekend.
