North Geelong staged a blistering third term to win the Cottons VWFL Division 2 Grand Final by one solitary point against Seaford.
Trailing by seven points at half time, North Geelong kicked four unanswered goals during the third term to set up its win, 8.6 54 to Seaford 8.5 53.
It was all Seaford in the first term, kicking the first three goals to jump out to a 21-point lead eight minutes into the quarter. Jessica Boyd was lively up forward with two goals, as North Geelong struggled to go inside their forward 50. Half way through the term Geelong final hit the scoreboard via Jady Brkic and best on ground Tahley Houghton, to cut the margin to just nine points. A late goal to Chris Di Ciero hurt Geelong comeback, as Seaford led by 15 points at quarter time.
Scoring proved difficult early in the second term, with Boyd finally adding her third half way through the quarter to see the Tigers out to a 20 point lead. This was the moment the game would change.
North Geelong started to gain more possession, but was not adding pressure on the scoreboard. It took till the last two minutes of the first half for Geelong to make its charge with Alisha Habib the key. She kicked two late goals – the second after the half time siren – to drag her side within seven points at half time.
The confidence for North Geelong continued in the third term, as four unanswered goals quickly saw them hit the lead, and out by 20 points. A late Seaford goal saw the margin 14 points at three quarter time.
The Grand Final was set for a thrilling finale, as only three points separated them in their previous encounter. Amazing North Geelong was kept scoreless in the final term, as Seaford made its charge. In the first 19 minutes of the final term, Seaford was only able to add 1.1 as Geelong defender gallantly. When Denelsy kicked her first for the day, the margin was just one point but as the ball returned to the middle, the restart saw the siren sound, and North Geelong crowned premiers.
