It is fitting that the top two teams in Division 2 meet in the Grand Final.
Seaford and North Geelong were separated by only percentage at the end of the home and away season, suffering just one defeat each – to each other.
They today meet for the chance at premiership glory.
Seaford enters today’s Grand Final already with one premiership cup earned in 2014, with their Division 5 team defeating Kew last weekend. This will give them plenty of confidence heading into this grand Final match.
The other fact that will fill them with confidence is they defeated North Geelong twice in the space of three weeks at the end of the season – firstly in Round 13 bring Geelong 10 game winning streak to an end (by 32 points), then by three points in the Qualifying Final.
In close contests in all three games this season, the team leading at three quarter time has gone on to win the contest – will it be the case again in the Grand Final.
Reflecting on the finals game that helped them reach the Grand Final, Seaford said it was hard work and intensity at the footy that help them for a chance at the premiership.
“First and foremost you need to win the pill to be able to do something with it.
“Our team are passionate and supportive of each other, we played for each other and the jumper. Hard work on the training track and the extra work outside has paid off.”
North Geelong won through to the Grand Final with an 11-point win over Pascoe Vale last week, in what was described as a ‘heart racer right to the end.”
Overcoming long travel times to games in season 2014 has help build the resilience of the side through the season.
For Seaford, Katherine Gillespie Jones will be the player to stop up forward with 33 goals for the season, and three against North Geelong in the Semi Final match.
Alisha Habib has kicked 46 goals for North Geelong this season, and one would think if she can kick her 50th goal for the season, Geelong might be a chance to reverse the recent results against Seaford.
