The tournament, which brings 25 teams (seven women’s) from countries all over the world, will continue this weekend with three VWFL games hosting matches.
Ireland, the reigning International Cup Women’s champions, will take on USA Liberty after the Diamond Creek v Melbourne Uni clash at Plenty Park.
The match gives the Creekers the chance to cheer on one of their own with premiership hero Laura Corrigan pulling on the boots for her native Ireland.
VWFL radio will be in attendance to call the big game – CLICK HERE for audio streaming details.
It’s a similar story for Eastern Devils gun Kendra Heil who is currently starring for Canada.
The Devils and Cranbourne clash will be played at 12.00pm to accommodate the International Cup match between Canada Northern Lights and Fiji, with local support sure to behind those wearing the Maple Leaf.
The huge match between VU St Albans and Darebin will also welcome an IC hit-out with the USA Freedom and Tonga to go head-to-head in a twilight fixture at 4.30pm.
The games are part of a push to give the competing countries a chance to experience community football and possibly build relationships with local clubs.
VWFL league administrator Darren Flanigan said league was excited to welcome the respective international teams.
“It’s a great opportunity for the international teams to experience the community atmosphere which is created each and every week at suburban and regional venues across Victoria,” he said.
“The local game is the backbone of Australian football and hopefully this opportunity to be part of the weekly tradition will inspire ideas and build relationships that can only benefit both the international teams and the community clubs into the future.”
Ireland and Canada Northern Lights remain undefeated after two rounds of the tournament and remain likely to feature in the Women’s Grand Final at Punt Road Oval on Saturday August 23.
