Did you play women’s footy in the VWFL? Do you have any memorabilia or items that could help us tell the story of women’s football in Victoria? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, then we need your help!
The Victorian Women’s Football League formed in 1981 and is the oldest AFL League for women, but did you know that the VWFL has very little memorabilia for display from the past 32 years?
AFL Victoria and the Victorian Women’s Football League are seeking memorabilia (medals, playing jumpers, cups, newspaper/magazine clippings, photo’s, annual reports, etc) for history preservation and display at AFL Victoria.
Unfortunately as with many volunteer organisations, memorabilia and other items of historical significance to the VWFL have been spread across a number of people over the years and the story of women’s football is in danger of being lost.
We are particularly interested in photos ranging from formal portraits to candid shots, newspaper/magazine clippings and video footage from the 1980-90’s; we are also looking for any state team or other playing jumpers, match records, and other interesting or significant VWFL memorabilia.
AFL Victoria will be able to, where possible ensure that duplicate copies of photos and videos exist to help safeguard your precious memories from life’s little accidents. If you do kindly donate an item for display/use, your name will be listed as the donor with the item when on display. Original copies of any documents are preferred - we can scan items while you wait if they’re brought in to AFL Victoria upon appointment. In addition, you may scan your own photos and email them to Jess Smith as long as they’re scanned with resolutions of at least 300 dpi.
If you have any questions or need more information, please contact Jess Smith on the contact details below.
Don’t let your memories collect dust; let them come to life and be shared with the next generation of female footballers in Victoria!
