Singapore has withdrawn their players entered into the 2008 KLRC New Zealand Open due to "budgetary contraints" as advised to the Tournament Director Julie Carrel, by the Singapore High Performance Manager earlier this week
This is a shame for the tournmaent as Singapore originally entered 6 players; two womens doubles pairs, a mens doubles pair and two mixed doubles pairs.
The greatest shame is in the women's doubles event as this withdrawal sees the top ranked pair and the third ranked pair disappear from the entry list. Shinta Mulia Sari and Lei Yao are currently have a world ranking of 26 and would have been seeded number one with Fan Frances Liu and Yu Yan Vanessa Neo with a world ranking of 43 to have been seeded 3/4. The mens doubles pairing of Saputran and Wijaya would also have been seeded 3/4.
As these withdrawals were received within the allowed time period there is no penalty to Singapore for this withdrawal, just disappointment in New Zealand that we will not see these quality players playing here in a few weeks
