The First Wrap of 2026

Sam Mennenga made a milestone appearance for the Breakers but we begin with the efforts of our alumni playing American College basketball during the last week.

NCAA Division I basketball

Tom Beattie enjoyed a big game for UC San Diego as they beat his former team Hawaii University 83-73. Tom put together a stats line of 12 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and a couple of steals. Both teams 3-1 in Big West Conference play.

In women’s Division I play former Harbour teammates Flo Dallow and Mackenzie Chatfield (pictured) went head to head in the West Coast Conference.

It was Portland (3-1) with the win (62-49) with Flo Dallow grabbing 7 rebounds to accompany 2 points, 3 assists and a couple of steals. Mackenzie had 2 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assts for Washington State (2-2).

Bailey Flavell came up with 12 points and 7 rebounds as Hawaii (0-4) went down 65-54 to UC San Diego.

Florida Atlantic (0-2) also suffered a loss - 83-75 l to Rice despite another stats filling effort from Jess Moors who compiled 11 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a season high 7 assists.

NCAA Division II

Hannah Wentworth scored 16 points as Lynn University (3-2) gained a narrow 68-60 win in Sunshine State Conference.

Also in the SSC Charlie Dalton had a stats line of 5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks as Florida Southern fell 104-86 to Nova Southeastern.

NCAA Division III

Jacob Fotu scored a dozen points to go with 4 rebounds and 3 assists as Whitman College (1-1) lost a low scoring encounter with Willamette 58-55.

In the Pro’s:

Playing his 50th game for the club Sam Mennenga top scored for the BNZ Breakers with 19 points, though the Breakers suffered a disappointing 99-91 loss to the Perth Wildcats at Spark Arena on Sunday afternoon. The loss a fifth home defeat by a single figure margin in the current campaign.

Also in the Australian NBL Sam Waardenburg scored a season high 22 points and then followed that with 17 points as Cairns Taipans went down 96-78  to Illawarra Hawks.

Isaac Fotu posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds to help Utsunomiya Brex to a dominating 93-63 win over Sendai 89ers in the Japanese League - Brex now with a 24-6 record in the East Conference.

Also recording a double-double was Yanni Wetzell with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Akita Northern Happinets (bottom of the East Conference with a 5-25 record) in their 90-79 loss to Hokkaido.

There is another double-double to report as James Moors added 10 rebounds to the same number of points as Traiskirchen Lions beat UBSC Graz 84-78 in the Austrian League.

Brayden Inger had 13 points and 8 rebounds but Hemel Storm continue to struggle in the British League. They are after being beaten 86-68 by local rivals Milton Keynes.
