With many players enjoying a short Xmas break our Weekly Wrap is shorter than normal.

Here is how our Harbour alumni have been faring in NCAA Division I hoops in the opening two months of the season.

Beginning with the men Julius Halaifonua (Georgetown University, Freshman) is third best on the team in scoring (12.5ppg) and rebounding (5.2rpg) His field goal percentage of 63% (60/95) is the best of all the Hoyas.

Tom Beattie (UC San Diego, Junior) is averaging more minutes (30) than any other Kiwi playing Men’s Division I hoops this season. He leads the team in assists with 3.5 dimes per game and rebounds (5.6rpg) and is second in points (11.7ppg).

Kiani Saxon has been averaging 12 minutes per game for Wyoming, recently posting a season high 9 rebounds against South Dakota.

In Women’s NCAA Division I Bailey Flavell and Rebecca Moors have started all 12 games for Hawaii. Bailey, in her freshman season, has made a big impression averaging a team high 13.4 points per game.

Rebecca’s sister Jess Moors has also started every game for Florida Atlantic where she leads the team in steals pinching 2.2 possessions per game. She sits third on the team in points (7.1) and rebounds (3.9).

Mackenzie Chatfield is a lead facilitator at Washington State where she is averaging 2.3 assists per game.

Mackenzie’s former Harbour teammate Flo Dallow has started all her 13 games at Portland where she sits second on the team in scoring (9.7ppg) and third in rebounding (4.2rpg).

Hannah Richardson has started all 11 games at Lipscomb averaging 7.5ppg with twin sister Zoe has played all 15 games for University of South Carolina – Upstate.

Izzy Pugh has played 12 games for Wisconsin Milwaukee while freshman Amy Pateman has made 6 appearances for San Francisco. Unfortunately injury has ruled Kodee Williams-Sefo out for her entire freshman season at Xavier University.

In the Pro’s Post Christmas:

The BNZ Breakers snapped a three game losing streak in dramatic fashion in Hobart beating the Tasmania Jack Jumpers 81-80 in overtime on Boxing Day.

Playing his 49th game for the Breakers Sam Mennenga finished with a team high 20 points, on 10 from 14 shooting, to accompany 7 rebounds. Tai Webster, with 7 points, brought up 1,000 NBL career points – 541 for the Breakers and 459 for Perth Wildcats.

Also in the Australian NBL Sam Waardenburg scored a season high 19 points as Cairns Taipans went down 93-73 to top of the table Adelaide 36ers.

Still in Australia – in the Women’s WNBL – Akiene-Tera Reed returned from injury to help Southside Melbourne Flyers win a high scoring contest to douse the Sydney Flames 113-94.

Tera shot an efficient 7 from 9 from the field on her way to 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Isaac Fotu had a monster 24 points and 14 rebounds as Utsunomiya Brex secured an 80-61 win over Koshigaya Alphas in the Japanese League. Brex are 23-5 heading into the New Year and sit atop the East Conference standings.

In contrast Akita Northern Happinets are bottom of the East Conference with a 5-23 record.  Yanni Wetzell has been a shining light for the Happinets averaging 15.3 points and 7.9 rebounds – he scored 16 points in the recent loss to Hokkaido.

In Europe, James Moors had a fine Boxing Day outing amassing 22 points and 14 boards to equal his career high rebounds tally. Hi performance was a major reason Traiskirchen Lions beat UBSC Graz 84-78 in the Austrian League.
