Fitting to end the year by acknowledging our 2022 NZ representatives

Our final weekly roundup for 2022 feels an appropriate time to acknowledge the Harbour representative players, past and present, that received national recognition in 2022.

No fewer than 27 players from our region donned the black singlet this year with almost half of those at the senior level – the Tall Blacks and Tall Ferns.

Brayden Inger and Sam Mennenga made their Tall Blacks debuts while Tiarna Clark (pictured), Olivia Berry and Tayla Dalton appeared for the Tall Ferns for the first time.

Tiarna and Ella Fotu both played on the New Zealand 3x3 team at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Two Harbour players attended FIBA World Cups in 2022. Amy Pateman was on the women’s team that went to the Women’s U17 World Cup in Hungary while Julius Halaifonua was New Zealand’s leading scorer, averaging 12 points per game, at the men’s edition of the U17 World Cup in Spain.

Special mention must also go to the Fotu family with three siblings playing on senior national teams in the same year – Dan and Isaac suiting up for the Tall Blacks in addition to Ella, as previously mentioned, a Commonwealth Games representative.

It’s also an appropriate time to mention our two international coaches. Jody Cameron is an assistant coach of the Tall Ferns as well as head coach of the Northern Kāhu in the Tauihi League while NZ 3x3 Women’s coach Justine Reed also finds time to coach the Rangitoto College senior girls’ team.
