Latest from college action in the States
Underlining his immense value to South Dakota Kruz Perrott-Hunt remained on court for the final 10 minutes against Bellarmine despite being on 4 fouls for all that time. Kruz finished with 19 points (3/5 3PG, 8/8 FT), 7 rebounds and 4 assists as he led the Coyotes to a 78-64 victory in their last non-conference fixture.
Sam Mennenga scored just two points as Davidson College defeated Radford 74-54 but it did bring up the 200th career point for the former Westlake forward. He also tallied 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
In other Division I action Taine Murray scored with his only shot (a 3-pointer) as Virginia beat Fairleigh Dickinson 82-49. St Mary’s California went down 63-53 at San Diego State with Dan Fotu scoring a couple of points.
Meanwhile in the women’s top flight USC dominated Texas Southern winning 77-45. Tera Reed contributed 4 points and triples in rebounds, assists and steals.
Sean Murphy came up with 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal as University of Nebraska-Kearney pounded Sterling 105-69 in NCAA Division II.
Reihana Maxwell-Topia also scored 6 points but St Francis, Illinois were no match for Lewis going down 82-45.
In women’s Division II play Chanel Brodeur-Muir scored 10 points (plus 3 rebounds, an assist and a steal) as St Thomas Aquinas registered their second win of the season defeating Bridgeport 64-49.
Birthday girl Hannah Wentworth scored 9 points (3/4 3PG) and dished a season high 4 assists as Eckerd College remained undefeated after a comfortable 85-57 win against Davenport.
Eckerd are ranked #19 amongst all Division II women’s team and currently boast 8 straight wins.
In Junior College play Williston State suffered two defeats at the hands of Mesa College at the weekend. But that didn’t stop Keeley Tini piling up the numbers. She recorded a double-double in both games averaging a colossal 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.5 steals across the two fixtures.
Keeley has 225 points and 142 rebounds to her name this season - she sits 22nd on the Junior College Division I scoring list and 13th on the rebounding table.
Most other Junior Colleges have begun the festive season break.
