Talma v Brooke part two plus all the other American college news

Alex Talma and Biola University Eagles made it two from two against Denhym Brooke and Hawaii at Hilo University in PacWest Conference play. Alex scored 15 points (4/9FG, 7/8FT) as Biola secured a 79-63 home win. Denhym Brooke swatted away his customary three blocked shots in addition to scoring 4 points.

 A couple of days later Denhym scored 13 points but again Hilo came up short downed 88-70 by Azusa Pacific.

 A week after recording a career best 7 blocks Charlotte Armstrong corralled a career best 12 rebounds for Barry University in their 69-55 loss to Palm Beach.

Seven of those boards came at the offensive end with Charlotte adding 5 points – the Buccaneers are 6-12 in the Sunshine Conference with just two home games to come in the regular season.

Also in NCAA Division II play Georgia Perrott-Hunt scored 20 points across a pair of wins for Tiffin University Dragons that improved to 6-14 in the Great Midwest Conference. The Dragons beat Ursuline 76-67 and then accounted for Lake Erie 71-65.

A perfect shooting game from Yanni Wetzell couldn’t prevent Vanderbilt University Commodores falling to its fourteenth straight Southeastern Conference defeat at the hands of Alabama University (68-61). The former Westlake forward compiled ten points on 4 from 4 shooting from the floor plus 2 from 2 free throws - he also totalled 8 rebounds.

Miami University Hurricanes secured its fourth Atlantic Coast Conference win of the campaign defeating Georgia Tech 80-65. Sam Waardenburg scored 7 points and was also a defensive pest snatching a pair of steals whilst also blocking 2 shots.

Six points (3/4FG) from Matt Freeman helped Oklahoma University Sooners beat Texas 69-67 in an exciting contest. The win also kept the Sooners outside chance of making the NCAA Tournament alive – currently they are 5-9 in conference play and 17-10 overall for the season.

Akiene-Tera Reid returned to the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams lineup after a two-game absence due to injury but couldn’t prevent VCU falling 71-68 in overtime to Duquesne University. Reed came up with 11 points (5/8FG) as the Rams, despite the loss, still sit atop the Atlantic 10 Conference with an 12-2 record.

In Junior College Olivia Bell scored 10 points as North Dakota State College of Science wrapped up regular season play with a 78-73 win against United tribes Tech. North Dakota finished second on the conference ladder with an 11-3 record and now head to the regional tournament at the weekend.

Hutchinson Community College are also headed to regional tournament play after concluding its regular season with a 19-2 record. In her freshman season Keeley Tini has averaged 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

Joel Coffey has averaged 2.7 points and 2.6 rebounds per game for State College of Florida that take on Hillsborough Community College in the first round of the Suncoast Conference Tournament this week.
