American College season preview - Part 2

In the second of two preview articles we take a look at the eight former Harbour representative players on women’s basketball scholarships in the USA.

A pair of Tall Ferns, Zara Jillings and Akiene-Tera Reed, head the list – both are playing at NCAA Division I colleges.

Tera debuted for the Tall Ferns at the William Jones Cup in July after impressing in her debut year at Virginia Commonwealth University.Despite it being her freshman year Tera led the VCU season scoring with 400 points, just the seventh freshman to achieve that feat in programme history. She led the VCU scoring in 17 of its 29 games – starting in all but one of those games.

Zara had a solid freshman season for the Fordham Rams playing every game of the season - her college season was book-ended by Tall Ferns appearances at the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

Playing NCAA Division II are Charlotte Armstrong, Katie Diakhaby, Georgia Perrott-Hunt and Chanel Brodeur-Muir.

Katie and Georgia graduated from Junior College earlier in the year and now get their opportunities at the higher level that is the NCAA Division II.

Katie enjoyed a stellar season at Northeastern being named to the All-Region team after leading the Plainswomen in scoring (17.8ppg) and rebounding (11.2rpg). She has moved to Maryville University.

Georgia started all 33 games for the North Dakota State Wildcats who won both their Conference and Regional championships and finished with an impressive 29 wins – 4 losses record in 2017-18. She has moved to Tiffin University.

Charlotte will be hoping for better luck this season - she suffered a back injury in October last year that limited her to just six appearances for the Barry University Buccaneers in her freshman season.

Chanel is setting out on her college journey – a freshman at St Thomas Aquinas College in New York.

Keeley Tini and Olivia Bell will be suiting up in Junior College hoops.

Olivia played alongside Georgia Perrott-Hunt for the successful North Dakota State Wildcats last season and returns for her sophomore year in the upcoming campaign. Keeley, like Olivia, a graduate of Westlake Girls begins her college career at Hutchinson Community College.

We will be keeping an eye on the progress of all these players as the season unfolds over the coming months.
