Super City - Week 1 at NSEC. Northland beat Auckland !!

The Super City competition for Under 13’s, Under 12’s and Under 11’s began at North Shore Events Centre on Saturday.

The Jesse Mangu coached Harbour Heat Under 11 boys enjoyed a strong 57-25 victory over Counties Manukau Metro in the Boys Under 11 Rising Stars competition.

The Heat, with a well balanced scoring effort, led 30-12 at half-time. An equally convincing second half performance, with Mario Matiatos and Daley Pohio leading the scoring, saw the Heat to a convincing win.

In the Under 12’s Rising Stars competition Harbour Celtics beat Harbour Lynx 83-31 having earlier in the day accounted for Auckland 72-22.

Jack Mahan scored the first six points against Auckland and with Kevin Guo also in good touch the Celtics raced to a 43-10 half-time lead.

The Celtics join Franklin as the early pace setters – both boasting 2-0 records after the opening week of games.

In one of the closest games of the day Harbour Supersonics edged Harbour Smashers 32-26 in their Under 13 Rising Stars match up.

Special shout out to our visitors from Northland who enjoyed remarkable success with the Northland Taniwha Under 13 boys beating Auckland Premier Under 13 boys 53-39 in the top tier Super City competition. This is the first time in many years that Northland have beaten Auckland in this competition.

The Northland Under 13 Girls also came close to a win, eventually going down 34-31 to the WWABI Premier team in a fantastic game.
