Harbour Breeze team announced

Harbour Breeze begins its Women’s Basketball Championship (WBC) campaign in Tauranga on Friday with a match up against City of Sails rivals Auckland Dream.

The two teams met a couple of weeks ago with Auckland claiming a 55-48 victory in the inaugural Ross Williams Cup.

However the Breeze will be boosted by the appearance of Tera Reed who joins to the team on the back of an exceptional freshman season at Virginia Commonwealth University. Reed was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Rookie team after averaging 14 points a game in her first season at VCU - only the seventh player to achieve that distinction in programme history.

Also returning will be Morgan Ili who last year completed her scholarship at Oregon Tech. Ili will be an important cog in the Breeze guard rotation along with NZ age group reps Tayla Dalton and Jordyn Maddix.

In the frontcourt former Westlake standout Keeley Tini, rising star Jazz Kailahi-Fulu and Australian Faith McKenzie will carry the bulk of the workload.

The Breeze will be able to call upon some of their other American college based players later in the season.

This year sees the introduction of a new multi-tier system, which will consist of three categories for the 2018 WBC.

Tier one will be made up of eight provincial teams, and will represent the elite level of competition.

The tier one teams are: Canterbury Wildcats, Auckland Dream, Taranaki Thunder, Harbour Breeze, Otago Gold Rush, Waikato Country Cannons, Tauranga City Coasters and the Waikato Wizards.

The Breeze team to play in Tauranga:

Tayla Dalton, Mareta Davidson, Tabitha Jenkins, Jazzmyne Kailahi-Fulu, Morgan Ili, Shanee Kiriau, Anna Lacey, Jordyn Maddix, Faith McKenzie, Tera Reed, Tessa Talo-Tomokino, Keeley Tini.
