Career high for Tera Reed the highlight of latest performances from Harbour players in USA

Harbour players are performing with distinction for their respective US college teams but the performance of the week belongs to Tera Reed.

The freshman guard, who posted a career high 22 points as Virginia Commonwealth beat Old Dominion 68-39, produced shooting stats to savour – 7 from 9 field goals included 3 out of 4 from beyond the arc, plus 5 from 5 free throws.

For good measure Reed added 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

Idaho State Bengals slipped to a second successive defeat going down 61-53 at Wyoming. Brooke Blair was kept relatively quiet scoring 7 points and bagging 3 rebounds for the Bengals.

Tiarna Clarke scored three points and added a brace of rebounds in 14 minutes as Northern Colorado Bears improved to 6-2 with a commanding 80-55 victory against Pacific.

Hawaii Pacific Sharks opened PacWest Conference play with an 83-60 home win over Biola. Ella Fotu was a key contributor with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a block as the Sharks made it four wins on the bounce.

A couple of days later the Sharks were brought down to earth going down 62-57 to Concordia Irvine with Fotu making 6 points and snaring 6 rebounds in the loss.

Zara Jillings produced 2 points and 4 rebounds as Fordham Rams edged Pittsburgh 62-57 in a close one. That was a third straight win for Fordham as they improve to 4-2 for the season.

In Junior College action the double-doubles keep coming for Katie Diakhaby. The Northeastern Junior College forward led her team in points (18), rebounds (13) and assists (5) as they went down 81-63 to Western Nebraska Junior College.

With an 84-51 victory against Concordia College, North Dakota State College Wildcats are now 11-1 for the season. Georgia Perrott-Hunt had 4 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists - teammate Olivia Bell scored a season high 15 points

And for the men……

Matt Freeman scored 9 points and added 4 rebounds as Oklahoma Sooners (7-1) won a fourth straight game defeating Texas at San Antonio 97-85.

Dartmouth College are 2-4 after a narrow 79-73 loss at Sacred Heart. Isaac Letoa played 9 minutes for the Big Green grabbing a pair of rebounds and a steal.

Starting centre Jack Salt was needed for just 20 minutes as Virginia Cavs dispatched Lehigh 75-54 for an eighth straight win. Salt scored 4 points and added  a block and a pair of rebounds.

The Miami Hurricanes underlined their status as a top 12 team and remain unbeaten after a 69-54 win over Boston. Sam Waardenburg snared a couple of rebounds in 9 minutes – the game played in front of 7,000 home fans at the Watsco Centre was an eighth straight win for the Hurricanes.

As reported earlier two Harbour players went head to head last weekend and it was Denhym Brooke and his Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans that scored the win over Alex Talma and the University of Biola Eagles.

The Vulcans led from almost start to finish with Brooke, the former Rangitoto College standout, scoring seven of Hilo’s first thirteen points as they established a 42-29 half-time lead.

Hilo went on to win its first PacWest Conference game of the season 80-55 with Brooke tallying 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. He was 100% from the floor on 4 from 4 shooting and almost perfect from the foul line converting 6 from 7 attempts.

Talma, a Westlake Boys alumnus, fought hard for Biola producing 8 points and 3 rebounds but the Eagles, in their first season in the PacWest Conference, slipped to a second defeat having lost at Hawaii Pacific a couple of days earlier.

Due to heavy rainfall and high humidity the playing surface at the University of Hilo Gymnasium was deemed unsafe and the game was played at Waiakea High School.

Brooke is averaging 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for Hilo. Talma, like Brooke a Junior (third season player), averages 7.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
