Denhym Brooke and Alex Talma went head to head

Two Harbour players went head to head at the weekend and it was Denhym Brooke and his Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans that scored the win over Alex Talma and the University of Biola Eagles.

The Vulcans led from almost start to finish with Brooke, the former Rangitoto College standout, scoring seven of Hilo’s first thirteen points as they established a 42-29 half-time lead.

Hilo went on to win its first PacWest Conference game of the season 80-55 with Brooke tallying 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks. He was 100% from the floor on 4 from 4 shooting and almost perfect from the foul line converting 6 from 7 attempts.

Talma, a Westlake Boys alumnus, fought hard for Biola producing 8 points and 3 rebounds but the Eagles, in their first season in the PacWest Conference, slipped to a second defeat having lost at Hawaii Pacific a couple of days earlier.

Due to heavy rainfall and high humidity the playing surface at the University of Hilo Gymnasium was deemed unsafe and the game was played at Waiakea High School.

Brooke is averaging 9.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for Hilo. Talma, like Brooke a Junior (third season player), averages 7.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.
