THE final round of season saw for an entertaining clash between Albanvale and Manor Lakes, with the Cobras needing to win to play finals, while Manor Lakes were looking for a spot in the top two.
Manor Lakes started the strongest, with a five goal opening term. The margin could have been bigger if the Storm had been more accurate, however they still held a solid 15-point lead.
The tides turned in the second, however, with Albanvale kicking five goals of their own, while keeping the Storm to just one major, they were able to turn a 15-point deficit into a nine-point buffer at the main break.
The flow of the match steadied in the third term, as Storm fought back with the first four goals to take a two point leading heading into the final quarter, however Albanvale wouldn’t be denied a finals birth.
A six goal to three final term in favour of the Cobras sealed the result.
Jackson Lescko and Jackson Redfern goaled to bring the Storm back to within four points late in the game, however the Cobras kicked the last two goals of the match to win by 17-points, setting up a replay in this week’s Semi Finals.
Daniel Bartolo was the leading goal kicker on the ground with four majors for Albanvale, while Ibrahim Atik kicked three for Albanvale.
Jackson Redfern and Justin Palmer kicked three each for the Storm.
Matthew Plummer was also important for the Cobras, while Jarryd Formosa kicked two goals in a solid performance.
In Round 15’s other matches, North Footscray took the points in the Footscray showdown, led by Samuel Kater with six majors, as they gave themselves some good momentum heading into the finals to win by 81-points.
Meanwhile, Yarraville-Seddon took the chocolates against Newport Power, breaking away from a quarter time deadlock to win by 68-points.
Week one of the finals heats up as North Footscray and Yarraville face off for a Grand Final birth – the loser to play the winner of the second semi-final.
Meanwhile it’s deja-vu for the Storm and the Cobras who will play in a do-or-die clash, the winner progressing while the loser will look towards 2018.
With only four teams able to progress, Newport Power and West Footscray bid farewell to the WRFL for this year.
