THE Yarraville Seddon Eagles have recorded consecutive draws in the Under-19 competition, leaving their top spot hopes in a precious position after they played out a thrilling draw with Caroline Springs.
The opening quarter saw a balance of play between the two sides as they each displayed periods of dominance. Caroline Springs made it count on the scoreboard with two majors, but Yarraville couldn't do the same, kicking four behinds to trail by 10-points at quarter time.
Yarraville halved the clearances in the second quarter helping them slot four consecutive goals to look well in control until a brilliant passage of play by Max Tessari and Jacob Vella resulted in a crucial Anthony Loiacono goal which kept Caroline Springs in the hunt. At halftime Yarraville lead 4.7. (31) to 3.4. (22).
After the break Caroline Springs turned the game on its head with four consecutive goals of their own. They constantly looked to bring the ball through the Parade street wing and maintained possession with hard leads being rewarded.
Lakers key forward Jack Taylor exploded kicking three goals in the quarter.
The Eagles had all the play in the last quarter, but the Lakers defence was resolute and sturdy despite the constant barrage of entries.
Eagles swingman Jordan Robinson brought the margin back within six points before a manic final 10 minutes ensured hearts in the mouths for both players and interchange benches alike.
A goal in the last minute of play to Yarraville's Brandon Lester allowed them to come away with two points and Caroline Springs a missed opportunity to achieve a finals campaign.
Demitri Bolkas and Liam Murray were Yarraville's best as they set up the play and held firm down back and Jordan Robinson kicked two goals. For Caroline Springs Joel Ives and Christopher Sarandis were in everything and Jack Taylor booted three majors.
