THE St Albans Football Club will be donning a special heritage jumper this Saturday, as the club celebrates 70 years.
The Saints will be wearing a version of their original guernsey from 1947, which was a Richmond styled jumper.
All the names from their inaugural team 70 years ago, will be featured in the yellow sash of the jumper.
“It will be big day for the club, we are having our 250 club at the game and following the match we will be auctioning off the jumpers,” St Albans’ Michael Camilleri said.
The history of the St Albans jumper is a fascinating one, back in 1947 they began with a Richmond themed jumper and in 1948 swapped to a Western Bulldogs jumper.
“In 1949 we again swapped to a Melbourne styled jumper and the reason we switched to the Melbourne jumper was because the Melbourne Football Club was getting rid of their jumpers and we got them for free,” Michael said.
“We have stuck with the same jumper since.”
St Albans takes on Albion at Kings Park Reserve on Saturday. Reserves start at 12pm and the Seniors kick-off at 2.15pm.
