THE Point Cook Football Club is on the verge of joining the WRFL’s senior ranks in 2018.
The club held a Special General Meeting on Wednesday night, where a significant majority of the membership voted in favour of the move.
Already an affiliated club with the WRFL and with 20 junior teams, the move would see the club also enter Senior, Reserves and Under-19 teams in the WRFL next season.
The club’s senior teams currently play in the VAFA.
WRFL CEO Matthew Duck said the WRFL would welcome the addition.
“The club has been affiliated with the WRFL since 2004 and the club’s decision to realign its senior teams with the WRFL is one the WRFL Board is supportive of,” he said.
“Whilst there are still some proceedings to play out, from a WRFL perspective this isn’t a ‘typical’ club transfer; rather it is a prospect of an already affiliated club entering more teams on a year-to-year basis just like any other affiliated club might.”
The WRFL will conduct a comprehensive competition structure review at season’s end, and final determinations will be made in regards to the make-up of the respective senior divisions at that time.
