PARKSIDE, one of the Western Region Football League’s founding clubs, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year.
The Magpies are one of the league’s most successful and decorated clubs having won 27 senior premierships and seven junior premierships throughout their history.
Past players, coaches, officials, volunteers as well as their current crop of stars came together at Moonee Valley Racecourse last Saturday to celebrate the special milestone.
Parkside’s Robbie Papal said the Gala Ball was a fantastic night for the club.
“It was great to see so many past and current players on the night,” he said.
“The milestone means a lot to the club, especially for the older blokes at the club, people like Rod O’Connor, Jimmy Lee, Brian Wilson and John Lord who bleed black and white.
“Those guys have been involved with the club for decades.”
Robbie said in the eight years he has been involved with the club, what has stood out in his mind has been the camaraderie with the playing group.
He said he wanted to thank their loyal supporters, who each week stand side by side with their players.
“I want to thank all of our volunteers who do an amazing job,” Robbie said.
“Special mentions go to the Clarkes, Lisa, Vlad, Richo, Rod, Jimmy Brian, Willo, Allison, Nikki, Gav, Ray and Shannon.
“And finally our coaching staff led by Nick Condos, who is tremendously supported by Chris Muratore, Clokey, Hunter and Sheppabottom who are doing a great job getting the boys up each week.”
This year, Parkside are also perfectly placed to add some more trophies to their growing cabinet, with both their Seniors and Reserves sitting on top of the Division 3 ladders.
“Its the old cliché, but the boys are taking it one week at a time,” Papal said.
“We are one of many chances in a very competitive competition.”
Parkside host Braybrook at Henry Turner Reserve on Saturday. The Reserves kick-off at 12pm and the Seniors start at 2.15pm.
