THE Under-19 competition has a new leader, after the Yarraville Seddon Eagles claimed a hard-fought victory over the previously undefeated Altona.
The Eagles handed Altona their first loss of the season at McLean Reserve, locking down the Vikings defensively and preventing easy possessions and scoring opportunities.
Kyle Blake starred in the win, and while the key forward kicked just two goals, he managed to worry opposition defenders and made a statement with strong contested marks.
Altona competed throughout the whole contest, but struggled to find effective possessions going forward, scoring most of their goals from scrappy half-opportunities instead of well-developed team play.
In Caroline Springs, the Lakers claimed a resounding win over Wyndhamvale, boosting their percentage with a strong 130-point thrashing. Cooper Bond and Dale Dyson kicked five goals each for the Lakers, kicking more individually than Wyndhamvale managed as a team.
The Falcons, however, will be looking forward to next week, when they play the also-winless Albanvale in a great opportunity for them to record their first premiership points.
A narrow game in Hoppers Crossing saw the Warriors win by just six points against Spotswood, keeping them firmly placed in the top half of the ladder.
Despite Hoppers Crossing leading by 20-points at half-time, Spotswood clawed their way back in the second ha lf, kicking the same amount of total goals as the Warriors, but losing on the behinds tally.
Jumping above Spotswood on the ladder is the Wyndham Suns, who beat St Albans by 50 points on Saturday. The Saints led at the first break, but struggled moving forward from then on, kicking just two goals for the rest of the game.
Paul Tomelty and Fraser Richmond were standouts for the Suns, kicking three and four goals respectively.
Albion also scored a win over Albanvale and Newport Power forfeited against the Werribee Districts.
Next week, Albion will host Werribee Districts in a battle between third and fourth on the ladder, while Spotswood will head to Altona and Hoppers Crossing will play St Albans at home.
In Newport, the Power will take on Caroline Springs, while league-leaders Yarraville Seddon will take the trip to Goddard Street Reserve to play the Suns and finally Wyndhamvale and Albanvale will go head-to-head.
